ASSESSMENT—BEGINNING THE JOURNEY

Understanding Your Teenager's Personal Situation

We begin by meeting with the parents or guardians to evaluate the current

situation and make treatment recommendations. We assess a teenager's level

of functioning in four major areas: school, social relationships, home life, and

overall emotional well-being. We also assess for a variety of issues including substance abuse, eating disorders, and depression.

  1. High School/College
We look at your adolescent/young adult's current grades, future goals, and family expectations. We help young people prepare for and adjust    to college life, depending on where they are in the process. We also address peer relations and how they are supporting or interfering with      a young person's success, self-esteem, and sobriety.
  2. Social Relationships                                                                                    We encourage young people to create healthy friendships with peers   who are trustworthy and respect them for who they are. We also want    to ensure that peer influence is balanced with the needs of the family  and the well-being of their community.
  3. Family Life
We are interested in understanding the impact of the teenager's recent behavior on the family. We also explore relevant factors such as divorce, remarriage, adoption, family relationships, as well as the family's strengths, hopes, expectations, and values.
  4. Emotional Well-Being
A teenager's behavior is often a reflection of his or her emotional state. They often struggle, act out, and make poor decisions as a result of their unresolved issues. We thouroughly assess your teen's emotional and psychological development so that the source of their problems can be directly addressed.
